Since 1985, the Hockey Hall of Fame Finland has been honouring players, coaches, referees and influencers of Finnish hockey with the title of Jääkiekkoleijona.
The Board of the Hockey Hall of Fame Finland Association appoints the members of the Selection Committee, who must have a broad knowledge of both the history and the present day of Finnish and international ice hockey.

The purpose of Selection Committee is to elect merited and worthy persons to be inducted as Hockey Lions of the Hockey Hall of Fame Finland. The committee consist of commendable members of Finnish ice hockey community. Current members are chairperson Teppo Numminen, secretary Kai Tervonen, Raimo Helminen, Marianne Ihalainen, Jarmo Jalarvo, Veli-Pekka Ketola, Kalervo Kummola, Jere Lehtinen, Heikki Miettinen, Hannu Tolonen and Erkka Westerlund.
